Don’t Touch That Door Knob!

Posted on Saturday, August 28th, 2010 at 10:02 am in THINK ON THESE THINGS... by Larry

One thing I have noticed over the years, when “I” open a door and go through it, “I” have to work very hard and seldom accomplish anything. And there seems to be a lot frustration and pain.
Yet when God opens the door, even if the work load is heavy, it seems light and actually brings pleasure. There is a sense of accomplishment.
Jesus said in Matthew 7:8 “For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”Don’t try to make things happen, let God open the door.

Work More On Yourself Than On Your Ministry

Posted on Thursday, August 19th, 2010 at 8:30 am in Leadership by Larry

A great leader will always have a desire to grow his ministry (If you don’t have that desire you need to get some rest or get out…rest is usually the answer). At times I have worked so hard at growing the people in my minister that I forgot to grow the most important person in my ministry… me.
Remember, maturity, teaching, and leading can only come from an overflow. I would wager if your ministry isn’t growing (spiritually and numerically) your personal growth development is lacking.
How is your reading? Most importantly the Bible; however are you reading books by other Godly inspired authors. Minimum of 1 book per month outside the Bible would be a healthy goal to start with
What about prayer? Is it so dry, repetitious, and seldom, or is like a conversation with a best friend setting next to you
Do you have a “think time”? Not a prayer or scripture mediation, but a time to sit and think and let the Holy Spirit speak to you, brink thoughts and actions to you about the people and the circumstances in your ministry.
We are reminded in Matthew 6:33 to “…seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”.
Grow yourself first and your Ministry will grow

Parents Job: Grow-Up Kids With God

Posted on Thursday, August 5th, 2010 at 6:58 am in Parenting by Larry

Parents are famous for starting early in teaching their kids life savings techniques; swimming for instance. Because we spent a lot of time on the lake skiing, at the age of 9 months Jeane and I started classes teaching our daughter to swim. As good parents we would never want our child to get into water over their head and not be able to swim.
As parents we would never allow our kids to get in over their head in their life. We want to train up our kids for living, and the best way to do that is to “Grow Them Up” with a strong sense of God’s presence
Here are 7 ways that I worked for us… Continue Reading

“How many loaves do you have? Seven they replied”…Jesus on the day he fed thousands.
Great leaders always teach their followers to use whatever they have on hand. As a leader I have also learned the best way to grow God’s people is not for “me to do”, but to allow “them to do”, with what they have (Their gifts).

Home is the first and most consistent proving ground for leaders in the church, or the business world.

Paul gave resume requirements for Timothy and Titus as they were enlisting leaders (1st Timothy 3:2-4). When considering a leader in your business, or a LifeGroup, youth ministry, children’s ministry, whether paid or volunteer, the first thought should be, “How is the home life”. If a person doesn’t understand how to lead their own home, how can they lead others (1st Timothy 3:5).

Good leaders will embody, not merely teach what they believe, and that can been seen, good or bad, through their home life.
