How “GREAT” Leadership Works (All wrapped up in 5 Sentences)

Posted on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 at 3:47 pm in Leader To Leader by Larry

If you are reading this you are the exception, most would never read past the title. Why? Because most never consider themselves to be leaders, least of all great leaders. The fact is everyone that has influence is a leader. Are you a parent, you area leader. Do you have anyone under your authority at work; you are a leader. Are you the bully on the play ground, you are a leader.

Being a leader is not the point, as I said we are all leaders to some extent. The challenge is how to be a “GREAT” leader.

For years I thought leadership meant being out front screaming “charge”, and then going as fast and as hard as I could to remove any obstacle that stood in the way. The major problem with that is, it doesn’t work. In fact you end up losing or seriously wounding many of those you lead and still never accomplish your mission.

So then I began the process of reading several books on how Jesus did leadership; “Leading Like Jesus”, “Incarnate Leadership”, and the latest, “The Master Plan of Evangelism” by Coleman, which is a real eye opener into the Leadership style of Jesus.

After all the frustration that came with trying to learn leadership, after reading all the books, a close look at scripture reveals that the real leadership style of Jesus was to invest in one person at a time, in an intimate, one on one kind of way.

OK, how to be a “GREAT” leader wrapped up in 5 sentences…
I do, you watch, we talk
I do, you help, we talk
You do, I help, we talk
You do, I watch, we talk
We each begin to train someone else.

Simple? Yes!… Easy? No!…Quick? Absolutely not! But that is the way Jesus did it.
So “As For Me”, I have started doing it Jesus’ way. Guess what? It works…”GREAT”!

After reading this post, I came to the conclusion that we are all leaders. However, where or what we lead too may not be the same…what do you think about : we are all leaders; Good, Bad or Indifferent.
Just a thought…btw: I love this post!! Keep it coming!!

love from your heart-love your self-love what you do.This will translate into confidence. Leaders must have a swagger about their self. All of the above is gods way of saying “well done”.
